Chimbote Man is Left to Die

Fall 2004

On October 20th Luis Alan Bocanegra, a young father was standing in line in the street  in front of the local Pharmacy waiting to buy medicine for his sick child.  Four teenage boys approached him and demanded him to give them his shoes.  He resisted because they were the only shoes he had.  They said we know you have money or you wouldn't be standing in line.   "Hand it over!" they said as they pulled out a knife and stabbed him five times.  He was taken to the Coleta hospital by some good Samaritans.
Another boy with a broken arm was in the emergency room with him.  He heard Luis Alan cry out, "Don't let me die or my baby and wife will starve and I also care for my mother.  My Father died of Tuberculosis and my mother has 6 more children to care for."  His cries became fainter as he slowly bled to death.   He was unable to call Mission Possible for help and since he had no money he received no attention. We receive many desperate calls from the poor and have been able to save many lives but sadly this young man lost his live when it could of easily been saved.
The picture below is taken from the front page of a Chimbote newspaper.  It shows his grief stricken  mother and the insert in the corner of this picture shows his body at the morgue.

Luis Alan's widow and child will need foster parents to survive.  If the above story touches your heart you might want to adopt this family in the Mission Possible Foster Program.  We hope someone will be able to spare $20.00 a month for this widow and child.  Her second child will be born in March 2005. Please someone help her.

Trinity Soup Kitchen

Thanks for making it possible to feed these 120 poor children at the "Trinity Soup Kitchen".  The children not only receive bread for their physical strength but are prepared to receive the sacraments, the bread of life to give them spiritual strength.  Their smiles make it all worth while.
