500 Soccer Balls for Chimbote

Fall 2005

500 Soccer balls are rolling in the streets of  Chimbote thanks to a gift we received for the poor children of Peru.
When we arrived in Chimbote in July our first priority was to buy cell phones so that Veronica and I could keep in touch with where we were and what we were doing.  We went to the Telefonica office in Chimbote and the people were curious as  to why Americans would want to come to Chimbote.  Veronica explained to them that we help 300 foster families in Peru and invited the girls to come and see our work firsthand the next day with the foster children.  They came to observe and  learned about the many sad situations that  the children and their families endure.  They were so impressed that  they wanted to do something to help.  They asked if they could serve hot chocolate and food next month for all the families.  Veronica said "Wow, That would be wonderful."   A month later they called Veronica the day before we were to meet with the foster children and said they would come early to set up a stove and have everything ready to serve the children and their families.  They were as good as their word and at 8:00 am when we opened the door  they were ready to serve everybody hot chocolate , bread and cookies.  Some enjoyed 3 helpings.  Thanks  Telefonica!
What a beautiful day for the children as every family received a soccer ball, clothing and something  good  for the tummy in addition to their regular cash allotment from their foster parents  It was like an early Christmas for all.

Church Building

The walls are going up at the new church of St. Rose of Lima near the Lima area.
The roof has been completed, chairs purchased and windows installed in "Our Lady of the Rosary Church"  next to the Pan American highway in the Lima area.
The roof was just put on this  mountain chapel called Capilla  de Cahuacuchs.
Special thanks to those donors  who made this work possible.
